CPK Isoenzyme Activity in Acute Head Injury

Abstract
The total creatine phosphokinase(CPK) and it¢¥s isoenzyme activities of serum were measured serially in 25 cases of acute head injury.
1. Total CPK activities increased at the admission in all cases and some of them were shown to be increasing in first few days.
2. CPK-BB activities were detected in the serum of 19 out of 25 cases with acute head injury. There was the tendency that the severer the head injury, the more frequent the detection of CPK-BB activities! in 93% of severe injuries, 75% of moderate injuries and 50% of mild injuries.
3. CPK-BB activities were detected early after the trauma in nearly all cases and disappeared with in 24 hours in the most cases. In some cases with the poor prognosis they could be detected later than 24 hours after admission.
